Memorial Day & Shay's 10K

Monday
Another goal completed! I am not a huge runner -- I don't enjoy it...I get bored.
But I made a goal after having Ainsley and I felt inspired to set a goal to run and train for a 10k (6 miles).  Since Ainsley was born, I've wanted to get healthy and more fit like I used to be, so this was the way God showed me how to do it (along with eating better).  I ran in the Run of Remembrance in American Fork on Memorial Day. I wanted to find a race where all the money would go to a good cause. All proceeds from the Run of Remembrance went to the Afflicted War Heroes charity.  I thought it was a good way to remember the meaning of the day and support a local charity event.
I ended up running 8:48/mile; I finished in 54:31!
This is my personal best so far. It's better than the Half Marathon Kory and I did two years ago. (That record was not Kory's fault as he was staying with me when my muscles gave out. Sorry, honey.)
10k was perfect for me. I plan to continue doing them in the future. (AND, I've lost all the baby weight. ;) )

My lovely family came and supported me. :)

Ainsley loved the free oranges. She seriously was going crazy for them. The pictures don't do it justice.
And Sydney loved the Bouncy House they set up for the kids.  The face says it all. ;)

The Dirty Dash 2011

This year I participated in one of the funnest activities in the world!  The Dirty Dash! Located at Soldier Hollow up Provo Canyon (in Midway, UT), the Dirty Dash is a 10K or 5K race of mud and obstacles.  Some of my friends and their friends formed a team called "Hotter Than Dirt".  It. Was. A. BLAST!  Probably the most fun I've had in forever; I felt like a teenager again. I tried to keep these pictures in order of the obstacles we came across so that you could get a good idea of how it was. Kory also caught a video of the ending as we swam through the two mud ponds. :) Next year we plan to get more friends and our husbands involved. ;)

Our Half Marathon!

WE DID IT!

We ran and finished our first Half Marathon!  Wow, I can't believe we actually did it.
Jordan and Ashley Hix basically inspired us to do this because they up and did it first.  They had success at the AF Canyon Marathon (which would be the one I wish we did), but we decided to do the Spanish Fork Half Marathon because of the timing. Since we started later in the summer with a 10-week training program, the SF race was on the perfect weekend (it also happened to be Sydney's bday: Sept 10th).  I probably wouldn't choose the SF route again because they failed to have aid stations where they needed and promised.  Our time was 2h18min, which was a little over what we wanted and trained for.  What mainly happened was my left gluts and hamstrings started to freak out at about mile 8 and just got worse for the rest of the race (this never happened in our training).  The only aid stations with water that we saw were at mile 3, 8, and 10: very random and horrible timing.  I honestly believe we would've done much better if we had more water, especially for me.  I apologize to Kory for holding him back as he probably would've done much better without me, but he was cute and wouldn't leave me. He definitely would've made 10 min miles if it wasn't for my weak muscles (I didn't cross train, which was my problem).Despite our time, we were first-timers.  I am proud enough to say that we set out and accomplished something we've never done before and originally scared us.  Because of Jordan and Ashley's random desire to challenge themselves, we want to thank them for inspiring us to do the same.  Thank you everybody else who supported us in overcoming our first (and probably last...) Half Marathon!!! ;)
