Hawaii - Part 2

HAWAII CONTINUTED....
Day 6: Monday, Oct 3rd
Kayaking day! We rented five double canoes and canoed up a river and then hiked to a waterfall with a lagoon. The best part: swimming in the lagoon!! One more thing I can knock off my bucket list. ;)
We also canoed to a rope swing which was it's own adventure...Nate had borrowed an underwater camera from the Boy Scouts of America and decided to wear it while jumping off the rope swing. After he surfaced, he yelled, "where is it??" Yep...he had lost the camera. For the next while, the boys all dived in the 8-10 ft water trying to find it.  I thought it was a lost cause after 15 minutes of no luck. My dad did find a pair of sunglasses twice. But then a nice couple floated by and let us use their goggles. They took off before we could return them.  About ten minutes later, my dad came up with the camera. No way…really. That would be God's mercy for a newlywed couple with little money to buy a new one. :)

Order in Videos: Derik, Dakota, Kory, Dad, Sabrina, Savannah, Sierra, Nate, Dustin, Shaylin.

The boys getting stuck on purpose. That was before they realized these trees where full of huge spiders. lol

 Ta Da!

The water was actually very refreshing! And absolutely beautiful.

We sat and ate lunch on the rocks where Kory took this pic on the Right.
I never wanted to get out.

The only fatalities: Dakota sliced his foot open real bad on a sharp rock one day at the beach the day before. I, on the other hand, ran into a short stump by the rope swing. I actually slipped off the tree too and fell right into the 4 ft water on one of my attempts. Gave me quite a sore, bruised shin....typical. haha

Day 7: Tuesday, Oct 4th
Our last day was a random and chill day. We went snorkeling again and drove to the other side of the island to Tunnels Beach.
One lane bridges were abundant in just trying to get there.

At Tunnels Beach for some more snorkeling and coconut hunting. (I was determined to find a coconut and crack it open and try the juice.)
 Nate
I still can't get off how gorgeous this place was!
Derik attempting to crack open my coconut with a sharp rock. I love this picture.
 Kory caught a gecko.

Back at the Condo, I was determined to get this coconut open! It was actually quite difficult.
The Samoan man at the PCC made it look so easy, and he even told us the steps to doing it:
1. Use a sharp stick and slam the coconut through it
2. Using your weight as leverage, rip off the skin
3. Find the face
4. Slap the top between the eyes with a rock and crack it open
Since we didn't have a sharp stick or a good rock, we substituted with a sharp knife and can opener. :)

  See the face?
Voala! The juice was actually kinda spoiled. oh well.
Now all I need is some string. (hehehe)

Day 8: Wednesday, Oct 5th
This was the day we left, but our flight wasn't until 8 o'clock that night.  We did some boogie boarding in the morning and swam with turtles.  We also went to see Spouting Horn: happens when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface.  Then we hit the airport and flew home.  Although there is one last story about the airport...haha (story below) ;)

See the sea turtle in the wave? Pretty cool, huh?!
At the Spouting Horn (hey, everyone was doing it... ;) )
I told Kory to write "K&S 4ever" as a joke and he did it! lol. :)

We drove up to another waterfall.

Then spent the evening at the beach. This is me calling one of the many times to Grandma Teresa.  This was the last phone call before seeing my Sydney in person again.  I really did miss her so much. Though it was the logical choice to leave her at home, I sure did miss her everywhere we went.

At the Kaua'i Airport waiting for our first fight. This flight was a breeze. It was our next flight that was the adventure...  ;)
One Last Story: At the end of our fun-filled vacation, we were ready to go home. When we were booking our flights back in August, we noticed that the only flights back from Kaua'i to Honolulu were around 5 and 8pm- our flight from Honolulu-SLC was at 9pm.  My dad called Hawaiian Airlines and asked if the 8pm flight would be too late for us to catch our following flight.  They assured us that we'd be fine if we did not check any bags.  We all agreed to doing just check-on, so we booked that flight.
We got to the airport and caught our Kaua'i-HNL flight just fine and arrived in HNL on time.  It was 8:30pm when we got off the plane and asked the desk where our next terminal was.  Just our luck, it was located on the other side of the airport!  We started out by walking briskly until we say a sign pointing ahead to "Gates 6-21"...We were gate 21. THEN we started running. Kory picked up my Sadie's bag and dad picked up Sheyenne's and we all took off.  Dad took the lead to get to the gate first but then we all got stopped at a completely random custom station.  Luckily, the only things we had to toss were two bananas the girls wanted to eat on the plane. We pushed our bags through the bag x-ray machine and started sprinting again.  This is where we got pretty split up.  My dad ran up front followed by a train of people: Sheyenne, me, mostly everyone else in between, and Sierra, Nate, and Derik in the caboose.   You know that part in the movie Home Alone where the 15-person family is running through the airport?...Yea, that was TOTALLY us! It was hilarious! Hahah. As we were running, I couldn't help but laugh at how funny we must have looked; we passed strips of people watching us like a dinner show.  Even though I was laughing, I secretly would have cried if we missed this flight.  As we heard Delta announce, "Last call for Delta flight to Salt Lake City. We will be giving your seats away", we turned the corner to our gate. Fortunately, the gates were set up to our advantage: Gate 6 started on the left side, counted up as you got deeper in the terminal, and wrapped around to the right side ending in 21. Meaning gate 21 was directly across from 6.  We were all panting and laughing, but we made our flight.  Lesson learned: NEVER ever scheduled two flights so close together. ;) Lol good times.
